Honolulu, Hawaii

DAY 2: JULY 3, 2023
I think we got out of bed today around 10am and went over to Dan’s to get the car. We had our minds set on going to Safeway for some provisions for the week. Lisa was also Jonesin’ for some Cup O’ Noodles. But we didn’t get anything crazy, just 8 pieces of fried chicken, half & half, mozzarella balls, crackers, some Cup O’ Noodles, & Cheese & Cracker snack packs. True authentic Hawaiian fare.
After unpacking the groceries in our mini-fridge, we packed up the umbrella, chair and small cooler Dan lent us and made a B-line for the beach where we ate fried chicken for breakfast with Diet Pepsi.
Lisa did a little bit of snorkeling (mostly to pee) and I just waded in the water. My hair still looked pretty nice and I didn’t want to get it wet. You see, later we’ll be joining Dan tour the coast a bit on his friend’s boat with some of their other friends.
So after the beach we went back to the hotel to shower and change, then Dan asked us to pick up some snacks for the boat ride at the Waikiki Market, which is not to be confused (as we were) with the Waikiki Beach Market that’s across the street from the hotel. We grabbed some cheese, crackers, vodka & cranberry juice. Dan said someone else was bringing a bunch of Poke, which is the state ‘food’. Then we were off to Dan’s and then off to the Waikiki Yacht Club.
Slowly but surely, everyone arrived and after a little bit, we were off. Luke had a beautiful sailboat (maybe 20-30 ft) that he’s restoring. He said he makes a living off his boat by doing charters and such. And his father also had boat that was 2 boats away and was quite a bit bigger.
We departed around 5pm. Lisa and I were at the bow, vodka crans in hand and snacks nearby. Soon after, the poke came out. Unfortunately, I filled up a bit too much on Wheat Thins to fully enjoy the poke, but what I had was yummy!

A couple girls came up to the bow with us and Lisa was in her element, teaching them about the ocean and playing a few games.
A few other guys came over as well whom I talked to. Two of them were in Hawaii working on security systems (I think) for the military at Pearl Harbor, The other one was the guy who fills up fishing boats and such with ice. They were very cool and we all stayed at the bow for the entire trip.
The trip overall was beautiful and relaxing. I love boats and being on them. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any ocean-life, but there were an abundance of rainbows. I didn’t realize that Hawaii is as humid as it is and there’s a permanent cloud (no joke) over the mountains that go thru the island north to south which causes all the rainbows and double rainbows.
We got back to the dock around 7:30pm to find out that one of the ladies who was on the boat got sick soon after we departed, and to top it off, her cell phone fell into the water as she was getting off the boat. Luke dove in to get it, but couldn’t find it. A heroic effort, but it was just too dark down there. Oh, and one of his contacts fell out when he dove in.
We had fun though 🙂
